Mario) Note in Italiano: La Canzone del Piave, nota anche come «La Leggenda del Piave» rappresenta un Inno alla vittoria italiana nella Grande Guerra. La canzone fu composta nel Giugno del 1918, subito dopo la Battaglia del Solstizio. Il brano acquisì presto una certa popolarità arrivando ad essere adottato, ufficiosamente, quale Inno Nazionale della Repubblica Italiana tra il 1946 e il 1947. Attualmente viene eseguito, con un tempo molto lento, durante la deposizione delle corone ai caduti e, come ad esempio quando il Presidente della Repubblica rende omaggio ai caduti all'Altare della Patria per il 2 Giugno (Festa Nazionale della Repubblica) o per il 4 Novembre (Giornata dell'Unità Nazionale e delle Forze Armate). Notes in English: The Song of Piave, also known as «The Legend of Piave» is a patriotic air devoted to the Italian victory in World War I. It was composed in June 1918 as aftermath of the Second Battle of the Piave River. It gradually gained popularity among people and Authorities up to its, provisional, adoption as National Anthem of the Italian Republic from 1946 to 1947, when it was replaced in turn by the current Italian National Anthem. Beside the possibility to sing or perfom it normally, It is also performed, in a very slow tempo, during the laydown of the flower wreaths and expecially when the President of the Republic pays tribute to the Fallen of every war fought by Italy on November 4 (National Unity and Armed Forces Day).
